Happy New Year, 2021 is Here!

Okay, at the time of writing this 2021 is technically still hours away, but I can’t wait for 2020 to be over so I’m gonna pretend I’m already there. Perks of being a writer.

So, during the last year we’ve had a lot of updates. We’ve revamped the entire design of my creations, websites, logos, graphics, covers, pretty much everything. You find the little asterism of sites and social media accounts here https://mythographystudios.com/check-out-the-new-look-and-the-mythography-pages/

As for gifts, you can download our 2021 Mythography Calendar for free. And you can grab a print version for your wall, Zazzle allows you to customise the calendar dynamically with your local holidays and such. https://mythographystudios.com/download-your-mythography-2021-calendar/

What we have done is we’ve expanded into a lot of translations. They’re not even all listed there, you can find them on Amazon mostly. Expect a steady flow of translations in Spanish and German since those seem to get a bit of traction. https://mythographystudios.com/translations/

For audiobooks, it has been a wonky year. We’re ditching Audible exclusivity for any and all newer titles, so they’re not confined there. This doesn’t change anything for Audible listeners, it just becomes more accessible to people listening from other sources. We’ve added Bandcamp, which we love, and Bookfunnel delivery for our store sales. You can find all the audiobooks on this constantly-updated page https://mythographystudios.com/audiobooks/

Since we mentioned the Mythography Shop, there’s been more content in there than ever. You can shop directly from us and we’ll give you tribute points you can exchange for a discount at your next order, just because you’re awesome. https://mythographystudios.com/introducing-tribute-points/

The Mythographers have grown to… *checks notes* 71 thousand! Holy Zeus’ balls. That’s a lot. We always love to chat with you, but since that’s not always possible, you can chat amongst yourselves. You can hang out with the Certified Mythographers on our Facebook group and/or Discord https://mythographystudios.com/hang-out-with-the-mythographers/

As for the future? You can expect more stories, especially in our more popular series, Cyberpink, Mean Gods, Futagen, Antigravel. More audiobooks, more translations for all you Mythographers out there, and pretty much more of what we’re already doing. We have streamlined the process quite a bit so everything is running smoothly. If you’re not already in the Certified Mythographers, join here and get the free starting library https://mythographystudios.com/join-the-mythographers/

We’re continuing on with our gamble of bringing you Greek mythology and speculative fiction together in various stories and various genres. The overwhelming response shows us that we were right, and we’re finding new ways to tell a story that you’d enjoy. There will be a few visual novels in the future, maybe? We’re not sure yet, but it’s on the table.

During the past year we’ve become possibly the most technologically advanced entertainment studio in Greece. Instead of fearing new technology, we’ve embraced it whenever and wherever it was possible. We’re utilising AI and machine learning tools inside all steps of the creation process to bring you stories at a rate never seen before. With OpenAI’s GPT-2 and now GPT-3, with visual enhancements for graphics, with audio voice synthesis, a virtual Medusa mascot (Say hi to Gorgocutie! https://gorgocutie.com/) and so much more under the hood.

What this means for you is that you’re getting more entertainment at a faster pace and at a cheaper rate. So, it’s a win for everyone. It’s also quite interesting to see where it all leads.

Have a happy and healthy new year!

That’s all,

George Saoulidis, Athens 2021.

What is GameLit?

GameLit Stories

Simply put, GameLit is a kind of story that borrows heavily from videogames, or has direct elements of such a game, like levels, boss-fights, character classes etc. The crunchiest form is LitRPG, but these stories will never be that.

Mythography GameLit will always sit in the intersection of a fun story and one that has some select Game Elements. If you are not a gamer, these stories are still for you. Don’t feel daunted by something you’re not familiar with.

We made a page for the Gamelit Stories, it’s just a spot where everything can be found quickly.

Our titles with GameLit elements so far are the following:

And more are added every day. You can find the non-Kindle-Unlimited titles on the shop:

You can watch the Halloween Raid review on the LitRPG Audiobook Podcast below.

We have three (3!) new stories on audio format right now.

Here they are:

Speaking in Bubbles, a short but very punchy story beneath the Aegean Sea

Gorgonise Me, where a piano melody can stop your heart

and,

Where a Spaceship Goes to Die, where a French girl learns what lurks below the furthest point in the ocean.

A Course Correction as the Year 2017 Comes to an End

This is a short update on our future. Things have changed in the publishing world, and we’ve grown a lot these past couple of years.

That’s a gamer’s hand placement, don’t think we don’t know that, hand model.

We’re reviewing what we’ve done and what we haven’t done. We needed to, cause there’s now 5000 of you.

ZOMG, what?

Yup. Five. Thousand. Mythographers. How awesome is that?

In short:

  • The serialized format that was popular 2 years ago is gone now. So we’re revamping some series into the classic trilogy format. Namely, Maniai Case Files and Heartbreaker. Expect those to be fattened up, you’ll get an email when that happens. If you delete the file from your ereader and redownload you’ll get the new version.
  • We’re focusing on print editions. People seem to still like paper books, go figure! We’ve started making these available to you, first title to become available will be The Impossible Quest of Hailing a Taxi on Christmas Eve, very soon. Like this week, soon.
  • Upcoming titles and draft chapters are up on Patreon. If you want the polished stuff, do nothing and shop on Amazon or the other retailers from us. But if you want to be in all the crazy, read draft chapters, give feedback and get heard, get on Patreon and open the bags of Aeolus.
  • Audiobooks are here to stay. We love audiobooks, and some of you like them too. We’ll keep bringing titles in audio, with some of the novels slotted for production early 2018.
  • You seem to really like the omnibus, Myth Gods Tech. It was an afterthought for us but it seems to be quite popular. Maybe it’s the big letters or something. We’ll update it soon with our new content and keep it DLC enabled, meaning that you can redownload it and it will contain the updated version. If you bought it, there’s no added cost, ever.
  • We’re consolidating our social media channels. The most active accounts are on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram. If you’re on there, follow us so you get all the new stuff and the offers. If you want to hang out, we also have a chat room on Discord (Unmoderated, probably NSFW.)
  • We’ve started new partnerships with excellent artists in various fields. Narrators, illustrators (check out Antune Sketch.)
  • We messed up the Mystery Loot Chest but it was funny and you seemed to like it, so we’re keeping it. It was a 2 a.m. brain fart that worked out nicely. We’re giving a hint on the Loot Chest page on what to expect inside. It will always be an unpublished short story, taking place somewhere near our other stories. For now it’s the same first chest, but we’ll let you know when it updates.
  • We’re ditching Kindle Unlimited, or Kindle Select. We know some people really like Amazon’s Unlimited offer, but it requires exclusivity and we just can’t do that. The world is big, bigger than just the US. We tried it out, it didn’t fit our goals and now we’re rolling everything out of it. For non KU members this changes nothing. For KU members, well, we can’t do anything unless the exclusivity clause is lifted. Boo hoo. Send your woes to Amazon in email format.
  • We’ve launched official torrents. “You what? Really?” Yes, really. Read the page if you want to find out why we’re doing that.

What to expect in 2018?

Expect more Nanodaemons, more Muses and the zany new series Cyberpink. Expect some titles to be tightened up and published into trilogies. Now that we’ve gotten excellent feedback from you, we can focus our efforts in stories that you like.

Make sure you’re in the Certified Mythographers so don’t miss an email.

Houston Listens for Free

Audible made a nice gesture for the people in Houston, namely removing all cost for 3 months for the afflicted areas.

Audiobooks for everyone!

My colleagues at Audible, ACX, and I watched the terrible news about Hurricane Harvey with the same sense of “What can we do to help?” that so many others had. We’ve noted publishers making books available to schools, libraries and shelters in the area and applaud their efforts.

We wanted you to know that we’ve contacted the tens of thousands of Audible members in the greater Houston area to let them know their memberships are on Audible for the next three months and that they won’t be billed during this time. Our hope is that this makes life a little bit easier for our customers who are impacted by Harvey.

We did something similar after Hurricane Katrina and try to extend the same spirit of “do the right thing” in working with school kids in Newark (more on that soon). We won’t be billing our Houston-area members for their audio over the next three months. We’ve already gotten a few notes from members in Houston who are grateful for our offer. Let’s hope that listening to some high quality audio may brighten a bleak situation for some people.

Sincerely, Beth Beth Anderson EVP & Publisher Audible, Inc.

So, hoping it all gets better. Head over to our Audiobooks page and pick something if you’re in Houston.

No, wait! Half our stories are disaster/tragedy plots. Why would somebody want to read them in that situation?

Abort. Do not go there.

ABORT.

Best Time to Start Listening to Audiobooks is Now!

Normally I don’t endorse getting into a closed ecosystem of a big brand, but with audiobooks it’s different. There’s not much out there in way of alternatives, and audiobooks are bulky enough to be a pain to manage. Audible has made a great system to buy, try, gift and listen to audiobooks all day across all your devices.

Don’t drink and drive, get high on literature instead!

And now, for the corporate self-made holiday that is shoved down our throats whether we want to or not, there is Prime Day. Yay! Or not.

Anyway, it’s a great way to test out Audible. I have a subscription. You can have one too. At a discount, too (It’s worth it).

Prime Members get 40{3c8f4da9b128660293e5267e2f10c9f1bd8d9182b4c5f363c0a5386c1d86bb3b} off Audible Membership from June 29, 2017 through July 11, 2017

And we can give you some audiobooks for free! Really. Just get an account, head on to our Audiobooks page and ask for the title you want. We’ll gift it to you.

Go on.

Lifehack: Use an Older Phone to Listen to Audiobooks

Here’s something I thought of, and wanted to share with you in case it helps: Put your older smartphone to use by making it an audiobook device.

Here’s why that’s helpful:

  • Phone storage. Audiobooks actually take up hundreds of megabytes of space. It’s very easy to fill up your phone’s memory, and a hassle to start shifting things around. If you’re like me, who listens to 2-3 audiobooks alternatively depending on the mood, you’ll need about 1 gigabyte of space reserved for them.
  • Phone battery. The playback draws quite a bit of battery. Instead of draining your phone overnight and wearing the battery life, just push your old phone to its very limits.
  • Audible syncs your listens and library across all devices. You can still use your own phone or tablet as normal, and the listening points will sync if you have WiFi on. Simple as that.
  • Separate car device for playback. If your car lacks smartdevice capabilities, you can just use an old phone and plug it in. Here’s Audible’s own advice for car listening.

In this time and age, there’s no way you can’t get your hands on an older smartphone that’s sitting unused in a shelf somewhere. You can use it without a SIM card, load Audible on it and connect to your account. There’s no limit to how many devices you can connect to one Amazon account, though you might get a security warning.

For example, I’m using my perfectly capable Nokia Lumia, which I discarded because I got fed up with the Windows Phone app ecosystem. Audible’s app is available on Windows Phones, so there’s no problem with playback and syncing. You can put the sleep timer to use and have the audiobook playback stop at a reasonable point:

If you’re listening to James Masters’ deep, lulling voice, the sleep timer button is your friend.

Also, here are two more accessories you might need for audiobook listening:

Noise cancelling earbuds, for outside listening.

A bus or a train ride can become noisy enough to prevent you from listening in to your book. Especially train rides, their decibel levels are shocking when you pay attention to them. You could use active noise cancelling, but those are more expensive and I honestly don’t like the separation from the environment while being outside. It’s one thing making an hour-long commute bearable by listening to a few pages, and quite another to completely shut yourself out of the world. The passive earbuds are good enough to let you listen in noisy environments.

Tip: The button can start or stop playback.

A flexible, spider grip holder for your phone.

This is one of the more useful things you can shop for. you can adjust the grip so it holds up your phone on the desk, ties around a night-stand lamp or sits nicely on your car dashboard.

Tip: As an added bonus, it can scare the crap out of someone at proper illumination levels!

What’s that? You have nothing to listen to?

You’re in luck! Get on our Audiobooks page and request a free copy now. (Available while supplies last)
